Anton Sova Calls on Latvia to Reconsider Eurovision 2025 Selection Rules

Anton Sova, Swedish talent manager, a member of Music Managers Forum Sweden, STIM and CEO of the talent company TUARON, is once again drawing attention to the limitations that hinder Swedish producers from participating in Latvia’s national selection for Eurovision 2025. According to Anton Sova, the current rules are undermining Latvia’s potential on the international stage.

The Latvian national competition for Eurovision 2025, known as Supernova 2025, will close its submission period this November. Despite TUARON’s efforts to attract Swedish producers and musicians, the current rules imposed by Latvian television restrict their participation.

Under the existing regulations, foreign nationals can contribute as songwriters, composers, or producers, but the number of foreign members in a songwriting team must not exceed the number of Latvian citizens. This limitation raises concerns about how much international expertise can be effectively utilized.

Additionally, the competition organizers have kept the composition of the jury secret for another year, which has sparked further concerns in the music industry, with questions arising about transparency and fairness.

Anton Sova emphasizes that the limited involvement of Swedish musicians and producers may be one of the key reasons behind Latvia’s continued struggles at Eurovision. He argues that revising these rules could significantly enhance Latvia’s chances of success on the international stage.
